A note from Isabela: We have a lot of new faces on here — hello! We’re thrilled to have you. This newsletter is part of our behind-the-scenes series, which we send out every month(ish) to paid subscribers. Ah, summer. A time for rest, relaxation, and… putting together pitch decks, applying for grants, writing and illustrating concept notes, and hiring our first-ever editor-in-residence (more on this coming soon). As many of you know, Zoë and I run Feminist Food Journal alongside our myriad other professional responsibilities, and that means when we finally get time to rest, it often feels like we’re playing catch up over here.

Thankfully there were worse places to play catch-up as both of us headed home to Vancouver for the month of August. I wrote in our first BTS newsletter that even though we share a hometown, it was a job in Berlin that first brought Zoë and me into each other’s orbits, and this was the first time we’ve both been around to enjoy the soul-soothing West Coast scenery and shockingly expensive natural wine offerings together. So how did we celebrate?
